Elapids and sea snakes are closely related. Although they have been considered as separate families, they are now often combined within the family Elapida. This family is represented in Arabia by 12 species: Chitulia lapemoides (GRAY, 1849), Chitulia ornata (GRAY, 1842), Enhydrina schistosa (DAUDIN, 1803), Lapemis curtus (SHAW, 1802), Leioselasma cyanocincta DAUDIN, 1803, Leioselasma spiralis (SHAW, 1802), Microcephalophis gracilis (SHAW, 1802), Naja arabica SCORTECCI, 1932, Hydrophis platura (LINNAEUS, 1766), Walterinnesia morgani (MOCQUARD, 1905).
